The more blood that stains my sink The more remains. Every vessel sore Every needle-prick sized pore An open mouth A gasp for air A scream I wipe my hands at least 50 times a day It seems the more I wipe the blood away The more it stays. It stains my sheets (how can I sleep when they have beds of salt and sea) It’s on my clothes (how can i dress when they’ve made all the clothes i own) It’s in my food (how can i eat when they have families to grieve). And I don’t know who else to blame. The governments, the media the global warmth, the lack of trees the angry earth, the rising seas They all trace back to me. So I can wash my hands 58,000 times a day. But the more blood that stains my sink The more remains. And my hands will never be clean. |
